Shinsaibashi-Suji Shopping Street
心斎橋筋商店街
Overview
Since opening in the Edo period, this arcade has continued to grow and draw crowds daily.
Shinsaibashi-suji is Osaka's main covered shopping arcade, stretching 580 meters through the heart of Minami, with roots going back to the Edo period. Today it runs international fashion brands alongside Japanese department stores, drugstores, and specialty shops selling everything from streetwear to traditional crafts. The southern end connects to Dotonbori's canal-side entertainment strip, while the northern end approaches the upscale Shinsaibashi district. Side streets branching off the arcade hide good restaurants, vintage clothing stores, and small galleries. The arcade is covered and comfortable in any weather, and the energy peaks on weekend evenings when the whole city seems to converge here.
