Takeda Shingen's warrior recovery spring at 32C, perfect for long 'sleeping bath' soaks.
Takeda Shingen's warriors recuperated here after battle, earning Shimobe the reputation as a 'healing spring' for injuries and recovery. The onsen has an unusually low temperature of 32 degrees Celsius, allowing extended soaking sessions that local ryokan owners call 'sleeping baths.' The quiet valley town along the Shimobe River has fewer than a dozen inns and zero convenience stores.
Wash thoroughly at the shower stations before entering the bath. This is non-negotiable etiquette. Bring a small towel but keep it out of the water.
