Shimizu Onsen is a sodium hydrogen carbonate spring with alkaline waters that are believed to lift away dead, dry skin cells and cleanse the pores, promoting smooth skin.
Sodium hydrogen carbonate spring with naturally alkaline water that is gentle enough to leave skin feeling smooth. A bathing facility wasn't built here until the 1980s, when a public foundation created it to revitalize a community that had lost most of its population since the 1960s. A new facility opened in 2024 with a mist sauna and a cypress relaxation lounge, built largely by local craftspeople using timber from Aridagawa. Its most distinctive feature is a cold water bath (mizuburo) filled with undiluted spring water that naturally flows between 17 and 23 degrees, preserving its mineral content without any dilution.
