The building of the Seto Ohashi Bridge was a painstaking process that lasted nearly 10 years.
Seto Ohashi Commemorative Park in Sakaide marks the Shikoku end of the Seto Ohashi Bridge, the massive series of bridges connecting Shikoku to Honshu across the Seto Inland Sea. The park opened in 1988 alongside the bridge itself, and the free-entry Commemorative Hall inside documents the nearly decade-long construction process with models, photographs, and engineering displays. The adjacent Hama Ritsurin garden was designed by sculptor Nagare Masayuki, whose large stone works create an interesting contrast to both the manicured plantings and the industrial scale of the bridge visible just offshore. Playgrounds and sports fields make it work for families, and from the park grounds you get one of the cleaner views of the bridge structure itself, particularly in the late afternoon light.
