Senshū Park
park
千秋公園
Water gardens around a ruined Edo-period castle, known for seasonal cherry, azalea & lotus blooms.
Senshu Park is built on the grounds of Kubota Castle, the former seat of the Satake clan, and its moats and earthen walls still trace the original Edo-period layout. Cherry blossoms in spring draw large hanami crowds, followed by vivid azaleas in early summer and lotus flowers that carpet the moats in July and August. A climb to the reconstructed watchtower rewards you with a quiet panorama over Akita city. The park is also home to the Akita Museum of Art, making it easy to combine a cultural visit with a leisurely walk through the gardens.
