Senagajima Island
landmark
瀬長島
A Mediterranean-style island terrace village right next to Naha Airport where planes fly directly overhead.
Connected to the mainland by bridge just south of Naha Airport, Senagajima's Umikaji Terrace is a whitewashed hillside commercial complex modeled on Santorini. The real draw is watching planes take off and land mere meters overhead while eating tacos or browsing boutiques. At sunset, the combination of low-flying aircraft, ocean views, and white buildings is photogenic.
Visit at sunset with a blue seal ice cream. Planes pass overhead every 3 minutes. The natural hot spring on the island's east side costs only 1,300 yen.
