Overview

Historic Buddhist temple sharing grounds with Nachi Taisha, offering iconic waterfall views.

Standing directly beside Kumano Nachi Taisha, this temple shares a history of syncretic Shinto-Buddhist worship. It offers the world-famous view of its three-story red pagoda with Nachi Waterfall plunging in the background. The temple itself is a vital stop on the Saigoku Kannon pilgrimage.

Local tips

You can pay a small fee to enter the pagoda and climb to the top for an elevated view of the waterfall.
