Sato Yoshimi Memorial Museum

Sato Yoshimi was born in Taketa in 1905 and went on to write more than 3,000 children's songs and poems during his lifetime. This museum is modeled on his later home in Zushi, Kanagawa, and displays his work alongside personal items that shaped his life including jazz records and Western clothing. His early anti-war writing was banned during World War II. After the war he devoted himself fully to children's literature, producing his most beloved work, Inu no omawari-san, a song about a dog police officer who helps a lost kitten, which remains widely known in Japan today. The museum provides a close look at a writer who worked with real purpose to elevate the craft of writing for children.
