Sapporo Jogai Ichiba
market
札幌場外市場
A sprawling wholesale curb market with nearly 80 vendors selling fresh Hokkaido crab, uni, and produce at prices that undercut the tourist markets.
Adjacent to Sapporo's Central Wholesale Market, this network of stalls draws restaurant owners, fishermen, and locals rather than tour buses. The vendors here handle the same grade of seafood as high-end sushi bars but at wholesale-adjacent prices. Several small restaurants inside serve kaisendon (seafood rice bowls) using whatever came in that morning.
Get there before 8am and head to the back stalls. Vendors will let you taste samples of melon, corn, and seasonal produce before you buy.
