山居倉庫
Black-walled 1893 rice warehouses under ancient zelkova trees on a historic trade canal.
Twelve rice warehouses built in 1893 line a canal shaded by a magnificent row of 150-year-old zelkova trees in what was once the 'Osaka of the East.' The black-walled warehouses stored Shonai rice that traveled the Kitamaebune trade route, and their double-roof insulation system still works without modern climate control. One building houses a rice history museum; another sells local crafts and sake.
