Overview

Mountain temple whose Nageiredo hall clings impossibly to a sheer cliff face, reachable only by challenging climb.

Tucked away in the mountains in the center of the prefecture, Mt. Mitoku is the jewel in Tottori's crown. One of just three sacred Shugendo or mountain asceticism sites in Japan.

Local tips

Purify your hands at the temizuya before approaching the main hall. Left hand first, then right, then pour water into your left hand to rinse your mouth.
