Sanagi Island

佐柳島
Island known for photo ops with its feline inhabitants, with simple lodgings & reached by ferry.
Sanagi Island in the Seto Inland Sea off Kagawa is a small fishing village island where cats now far outnumber the island's dwindling human population. A short ferry from Tadotsu Port gets you there, and a few hours is enough to walk the quiet lanes, visit small shrines, and encounter the cats that congregate around the harbor and along stone walls. Beyond the felines, the island shows the texture of a slowly quieting rural community, with weathered wooden houses, an abandoned schoolhouse, and calm views across the inland sea. Overnight lodgings are available for those who want to experience evenings when the island goes almost completely silent.
