Samukawa-jinja

Samukawa Shrine in Kanagawa sits at the end of a long pine-lined approach and has served as the central shrine of the Sagami province for roughly 1,600 years. The forested grounds have a coolness and calm that feels removed from the surrounding town. The shrine is associated with several important festivals across the year, including an autumn festival in September that draws large crowds from the region. Daily visits outside festival periods are quiet. The main hall was rebuilt in recent centuries but the overall compound retains its traditional arrangement. There's no single spectacle here, just a genuinely old place with deep roots in the surrounding community.
