Sakunami Onsen Iwamatsuryo
onsen
作並温泉 岩松旅館
A 200-year-old riverside onsen inn where natural rock baths sit directly above the Hirose River gorge.
Iwamatsuryo has been operating since the Edo period and features open-air baths carved into the natural rock face overlooking the Hirose River. The descent to the baths involves a long staircase through forested hillside, adding to the sense of discovery. Day bathing is available, and the mineral-rich alkaline waters are known locally for their skin-softening properties.
Request the tengu-no-yu bath at the very bottom of the staircase. It is the most secluded and sits closest to the river, with views of the gorge that few visitors see.
