Saki-no-Yu Onsen
onsen
崎の湯
1,300-year-old clifftop rotenburo where mineral pools merge with crashing Pacific waves.
One of Japan's three most ancient hot springs, this oceanside rotenburo sits on the rocky shore of Shirahama where bathers soak in mineral-rich water while waves crash against rocks just meters away. The open-air pools have no barrier between the bath and the Pacific Ocean, creating the sensation of bathing in the sea itself. The spring has been in continuous use for over 1,300 years, mentioned in the Man'yoshu poetry anthology.
Shower thoroughly before entering the bath , it's essential etiquette and fellow bathers will appreciate it.
