Commercial and entertainment center of Nagoya, built around the tree-lined Hisaya Odori boulevard and anchored by the Nagoya TV Tower. Underground shopping arcades connect the major department stores in any weather, while above ground the streets mix restaurants, fashion boutiques, and nightlife. The Oasis 21 complex, with its glass-roofed Water Spaceship floating above a sunken public plaza, is particularly striking at night. The dining scene runs from Nagoya specialties like miso-katsu and hitsumabushi eel to international kitchens and craft cocktail bars. On weekends the central park between the boulevard lanes fills with street performers and markets.
