Saimyo-ji Temple, a National Treasure, is drenched in color.
One of the three great temples of Koto, Saimyoji houses a National Treasure main hall whose vermillion frame becomes the perfect foil for autumn's blazing maple canopy. The hillside temple complex dates to the Kamakura period, its moss-covered paths and weathered wooden buildings creating an atmosphere of timeless serenity. Visit in November when the surrounding forest transforms into a tapestry of red, orange, and gold.
Purify your hands at the temizuya before approaching the main hall. Left hand first, then right, then pour water into your left hand to rinse your mouth.
