Overview

Sagi-no-yu Onsen is a natural hot spring (onsen) located on the Iinashi River in the city of Yasugi.

Sagi-no-yu Onsen sits on the Iinashi River in Yasugi, and the name comes from a legend that an egret bathed here to heal an injured leg, revealing the spring's curative properties in the eighth century. Samurai warlords later used it as a private bath during the Warring States period. The spring was lost in a 1666 flood and rediscovered about a century ago, eventually becoming the centerpiece of a traditional ryokan whose entrance is a 130-year-old farmhouse relocated from near Izumo Taisha and carefully rebuilt on site. Several other inns have since opened nearby, all within walking distance of the Adachi Art Museum.

Local tips

Wash thoroughly at the shower stations before entering the bath. This is non-negotiable etiquette. Bring a small towel but keep it out of the water.
