Overview

Ryumon Valley is part of Kurokamiyama Prefectural Natural Park, a relaxing place to enjoy nature.

Ryumon Valley runs through Kurokamiyama Prefectural Natural Park along the Hirose River, a waterway selected as one of Japan's 100 Most Famous Waters. The valley shifts character across seasons, from cherry blossoms in spring to the calls of the kajika frog in summer, an image found in Japanese poetry since the 700s. Hiking trails to Mt. Kurokami (518 m) begin near the downstream dam, with the 90-minute ascent passing stone statues of Buddhist deities. Even before the area became known for Arita porcelain, the mountain was part of a spiritual pilgrimage route. Local sake and freshwater fish are available at restaurants near the dam.
