Rokko Shidare Observatory

六甲枝垂れ
A latticed cypress-wood observation dome atop Mount Rokko framing Osaka Bay through organic architecture.
Designed by architect Hiroshi Sambuichi, Rokko Shidare is an observation structure made from interwoven cypress strips that create a lattice dome on the summit of Mount Rokko. The design channels natural wind, light, and water through the structure, and the framework casts ever-changing shadow patterns. At night, the dome is illuminated for the '1000 Man Candle Night' events. The panoramic views span Osaka Bay to Awaji Island.
Visit at sunset. The shadow patterns through the cypress lattice shift as the sun sets, then the LED illumination begins for a completely different experience.
