Rokkōsaki Lighthouse
landmark
禄剛埼灯台
Northernmost tip of Noto Peninsula where a lighthouse marks dramatic cliffs overlooking the Sea of Japan.
Rokkosaki Lighthouse sits on a rocky headland near Suzu at the tip of the Noto Peninsula, overlooking the open Sea of Japan. The white brick structure is squat and functional rather than tall and dramatic, but its position on the windswept cape gives it a raw quality. The cape is known for clear views of the horizon at both sunrise and sunset, and the parking area nearby makes it accessible without a long walk. The surrounding coast has a rough, wild character quite different from the calmer Toyama Bay side of the peninsula. The drive along the Noto coast to reach it is itself a reason to come, passing small fishing villages and cliff sections.
