Raigo-in Temple

A Tendai temple founded in 835 by Ennin (Jikaku Daishi), the founding site of shomyo Buddhist chant in Japan. The temple sits at the end of a 1.2km forest path running northeast from Sanzen-in, climbing alongside the Ritsugawa stream past the Otonashi waterfall. The main hall holds three Heian-era seated Buddha statues; the bell tower is on a small ridge above the hall.
