Walking the Pottery Footpath (Yakimono Sanpomichi) is one of the best ways to learn about Tokoname’s heritage.
Two walking routes through Tokoname's Sakaemachi district make up the Pottery Footpath. Course A covers 1.6 kilometers and takes about an hour, passing the area's most visited sites. Course B stretches 4 kilometers and traces the broader history of the city's ceramic tradition over roughly two and a half hours. The route winds through narrow streets lined with preserved homes and kilns, where residents have decorated gardens with Tokoname ware and former workshops have been converted into pottery studios, galleries, and cafes. Maps are available at Tokoname Tojiki Kaikan, and English signboards appear along the way.
