Volunteers work alongside rangers and other staff to study and manage Ise-Shima National Park, where they can be recognized by their official logo emblem and distinctive caps.
About 40 registered volunteers work alongside rangers at Ise-Shima National Park, with activities scheduled on over 100 days each year in the Yokoyama area. Their work includes trail maintenance, removing invasive plant species to make way for native ones, and running ecological surveys that count frog eggs in ponds each spring to track breeding populations of brown frogs and Japanese eight-barbel loach. Volunteers also lead group tours and hold crafting events for children. They are identifiable by their official emblem and caps. The Ministry of the Environment manages recruitment and registration, with the Yokoyama Visitor Center serving as the operational base.
