Overview
Free outdoor foot bath in a forest stream below Oyunuma pond, where the 100°C source cools to a soakable 35-40°C.
Oyunuma is a 100-degree milky-blue pond on the rim of the Jigokudani caldera. The hot water leaves it as a stream that runs through the forest, cooling as it goes. Halfway down the stream a natural pool with wooden benches holds the temperature at 35-40 degrees year-round. The 30-minute walk in from the parking lot follows a wooden boardwalk through Korean pine forest. Bring a towel; there are no facilities.
Local tips
The walk is uphill on the way back. Bring a towel and water shoes.
