Otaki Gorge

Otaki Gorge follows 1.8 kilometers of the Nio River between Toyota city and Matsudaira-go, dropping 148 meters into the valley. Dense tree cover keeps the gorge cool and shaded, creating humid conditions where moss blankets rocks, bridges, and tree trunks throughout. Two observation decks face each other across the valley: Fudosan Observatory and Fukuroga Castle Observatory. Trails lead east from the entrance to the secluded Utaishi Park and Otaki Lake, where a red arched bridge spans the water near a barbecue area. A round-trip walk to the lake takes about three hours. Autumn maple color and spring blossom season draw the most visitors.
