Osuka Beach is 2.3 kilometers long, making it one of the largest stretches of beach in the Tohoku region that can be traversed entirely on foot.
Osuka Beach runs 2.3 kilometers along the Tanesashi Coast, making it one of the longest stretches of beach in the Tohoku region walkable end to end. The sand is naki suna, or singing sand, which makes a faint squeaking sound underfoot. Swimming is prohibited due to strong rip currents, but the beach is worth walking for the views and the quiet. Among the seaside plants above the tide line, small holes in the sand mark the burrows of the iso komorigumo, a burrowing wolf spider that waits just below the surface to ambush passing prey. The beach was named one of Japan's Top 100 Scenic Beaches in 1994.
