Osaka Station
landmark
大阪駅
Major transit hub beneath a dramatic glass canopy, surrounded by department stores and rooftop gardens in Umeda.
Osaka Station, which first opened in 1874 and was extensively rebuilt in 2011, is one of the busiest rail hubs in western Japan. The current structure is genuinely impressive, with a vast glass-and-steel roof that arches over the platforms and creates open walkways and sky gardens above the concourse. Shops, restaurants, and cafes spread across multiple connected buildings including Lucua and Daimaru, making it a practical place to shop, eat, or just move through. The Time Water Clock on the south side, which uses falling water to display the time, is a small, satisfying thing to see on your way through.
