The main tower is a 1931 concrete reconstruction; the original fortress is in the massive stone walls and double moats below. During cherry blossom season, wait for the paid Nishinomaru Garden to close at 5pm. The main park remains open for free views of evening blossoms against the illuminated castle.
Local tips
The castle interior is a museum with an elevator inside. The surrounding park is free and better for photos from the southwest moat.
