Onuma Quasi
park
大沼国定公園
Quasi-National Park includes picturesque Onuma, Konuma and Junsainuma lakes, plus beautiful Mt. Komagatake.
Onuma Quasi-National Park, located about 20 minutes north of Hakodate by train, encompasses three interconnected lakes dotted with over 100 small islands linked by walking bridges. The centerpiece, Lake Onuma, mirrors the graceful silhouette of Mt. Komagatake, an active volcano whose rugged slopes frame the park's western edge. In spring and summer, the lakeshore paths wind through lush greenery ideal for cycling, canoeing, and fishing. Autumn transforms the park into a tapestry of red and gold maples, while winter brings ice fishing, snowshoeing, and the chance to see the frozen lake surface. Local vendors near the station sell dango (rice dumplings) that have been a regional specialty since the Meiji era.
