Overview
Okuizumo gorge carved by lovesick shark swimming upriver from the sea, according to dramatic local legend.
According to the legend, the massive rocks, some as big as houses, that clog the valley floor, were put here by a local princess in the hope of blocking a lovesick shark who swam up the river from the coast everyday to woo her, but apparently it didn't deter him.
