大村湾
Enclosed bay near Nagasaki Airport where calm waters reflect historic port towns and seasonal cherry blossoms.
Omura Bay in Nagasaki Prefecture is an almost completely enclosed body of water, surrounded on three sides by land with only a narrow gap connecting it to the sea. The calm, warm interior waters support farming of oysters, seaweed, and tiger prawns, and the bay is known for producing some of Kyushu's better oysters. Cycling and walking paths run along sections of the shoreline, with views across to the low hills on the opposite bank. The bay's unusual geography creates habitat for species less common in open coastal waters, and birdwatching is productive along the shallower northern shore. Several fishing towns around the edge have small seafood restaurants serving the daily catch.
