The Ome Kimono Museum is housed in a 200-year-old kura storehouse.
The Ome Kimono Museum holds over 500 traditional garments inside a 200-year-old kura storehouse, with much of the collection rotated seasonally. The centerpiece of the permanent display is the kimono and accessories worn by Prince Nashimoto and Princess Itsuko at the 1915 enthronement of the Taisho Emperor, featuring colors and patterns reserved for imperial use. The collection spans social classes, from lavishly embroidered noble garments to a simple blue-and-white kimono worn by a retainer of Tokugawa Ieyasu. The museum opens Friday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is closed December through February.
