奥津温泉
One of Japan's top 'bijin' (beauty) hot springs, the alkaline water is said to make skin silky smooth.
Okutsu is one of Japan's three great 'bijin no yu' (beauty waters), alongside Kawayu and Ryujin. The alkaline spring water has a slippery, soap-like texture that leaves skin remarkably soft. The riverside public bath (Okutsu-so) lets you soak while watching the Yoshii River flow past. The surrounding gorge has excellent autumn foliage.
The 'ashi-odori' foot-stamping laundry washing in the river is performed by local women on Sunday mornings. It's been a tradition for centuries.
