尾白川渓谷
The Ojiragawa Valley is located in the foothills of the Minami Alps range in the municipality of Hokuto.
The Ojiragawa River flows from Mt. Kai Komagatake at 2,967 meters through the Minami Alps in Yamanashi, its water appearing emerald green due to the white granite riverbed and the reflection of surrounding forest, though it is actually clear. The granite acts as a natural filter, and some water reaching the valley has been passing through the mountain for around 20 years before emerging. This purity is economically significant: Suntory, Coca-Cola, and Shichiken all operate facilities in the Hakushu area downstream because of the water quality. The valley is part of the Minami Alps UNESCO Eco Park. Bears are occasionally spotted on the mountain, so guided climbing is recommended. The river is popular for hiking and camping in the warmer months.
