奥入瀬渓流
Pristine 14km mountain stream with emerald waters, countless waterfalls, and a walking trail through forest.
14-kilometer river valley running from Lake Towada through dense forest, with a well-maintained walking path following the stream the entire way. The river drops around 200 meters over its course, creating cascades, rapids, and calm pools. Named waterfalls along the route include Choshi-otaki, the largest at 7 meters, and Kumoi Falls, surrounded by moss-covered boulders and tall beech trees. The gorge is walkable year-round but reaches peak color in autumn, when the reflected foliage turns the pools copper and gold. Buses run along the parallel road, so hikers can pick any section without committing to the full four to five hour walk.
