onsen
大原温泉
The hot spring operated by Oohara no Sato, a family-operated inn, is one of the few in Kyoto Prefecture with certified health benefits.
This certified hot spring at the Oohara no Sato inn in Kyoto's Ohara district is one of the few in Kyoto Prefecture with recognized health benefits. The water, discovered in 2014 at a depth of 1,175 meters, is high in radon, sodium, and more than a dozen other minerals. Recommended bathing time is just 3 to 10 minutes, and skipping the post-bath rinse lets your skin absorb more minerals. Separate baths for men and women each include an indoor bath, an outdoor bath, and a small cauldron bath heated by open fire that fits up to four people. The spring flows at 120 liters per minute.
Wash thoroughly at the shower stations before entering the bath. This is non-negotiable etiquette. Bring a small towel but keep it out of the water.
