Ogimori Inari Shrine

Ogimori Inari is the largest Shinto shrine in Taketa and one of Kyushu's most prominent Inari sites. The approach passes through a corridor of bright red torii gates and fox statues, the messengers of the Inari deity. The present shrine took shape in the 1800s under domain lord Nakagawa Hisaaki, who reportedly built it in gratitude after dreaming that Inari warned him of assassins. The first few days of the new year draw worshippers from across Kyushu, but quieter visits are rewarded with sweeping views over the town of Taketa from the top of the stone staircase.
