志津川湾
Shizugawa Bay is located near the southern end of the Sanriku Coast.
Shizugawa Bay stretches eight kilometers from shore to open water along the southern Sanriku Coast, dotted with islets, rocky reefs, tidal flats, and sandy beaches. Three ocean currents meet nearby, the cold Kurile Current, the warm Kuroshio, and the Tsugaru Current, creating conditions for unusually rich marine life, including extensive underwater seaweed forests. Commercial fishing here centers on oysters, silver salmon, and harvested wakame. The bay also hosts seasonal fish migrations from both north and south. The Minamisanriku Marine Visitor Center runs kayaking and seaweed-craft workshops for those who want to get closer to the water.
