Notoya Ryokan
wellness
能登屋旅館
A historic landmark inn in Ginzan Onsen, often cited as an inspiration for Spirited Away.
Tangible Cultural Property of Japan, built in 1921. Its iconic four-story wooden facade with ornate plasterwork (koshigaya) is the centerpiece of Ginzan Onsen's Taisho-era streetscape. The inn is famous for its stunning architecture, including a red bridge leading to its entrance. While primarily an upscale ryokan, it offers a legendary 'cave bath' (ana-yu) that was used during the silver mining era. The inn maintains a high level of traditional service. Because it is a historic structure, rooms are traditional tatami style. It is particularly popular in winter when the gas lamps and snow create a cinematic atmosphere.
The private-use basement cave bath can be reserved by guests for free; it offers a unique, dimly lit historic experience.
