landmark
鋸山日本寺大仏
Japan's largest pre-modern cliff-carved Buddha with vertiginous quarry trails and 1,500 stone statues.
A 31-meter stone Buddha carved into the cliff face of Mount Nokogiri, the largest pre-modern stone Buddha in Japan. The mountain, a former quarry, features dramatic stone-cut trails, a terrifying cliff lookout called Jigoku Nozoki (Hell's Peek), and over 1,500 stone arhat statues scattered through the forested hillside. A ropeway provides access from the coast.
