Overview
Temple 54 on the Shikoku pilgrimage, known for its longevity blessings and tranquil mountain setting.
Temple 54 on the Shikoku pilgrimage, Enmei-ji is a compact temple in central Imabari dedicated to Fudo Myo-o and associated with blessings for longevity and good health. The grounds fit into a tight residential neighborhood, with the main hall, Daishi hall, and a small bell visible from the street gate. A collection of small stone figures lines one section of the perimeter wall, accumulated through years of offerings from worshippers. Imabari is the northern anchor of the Nishiseto Expressway, also known as the Shimanami Kaido, and Temple 54 sits within cycling distance of the bridge approach, making it a practical stop before or after crossing toward Onomichi.
Local tips
Remove shoes before entering any hall. Look for a shoe rack at the entrance. Carry a plastic bag for your shoes if none is provided.
