No.44 Daihōji Temple

Temple 44 on the Shikoku 88-temple pilgrimage, Daihoji sits in the forested mountains of Kumakogen and requires a climb through tall cedars to reach the main hall. The approach path is quiet even by pilgrimage standards, with moss-covered stone lanterns lining the way upward. White-clad henro pilgrims pass through year-round, ringing the bell and offering incense at the altar. The surrounding forest canopy blocks most of the sky, giving the grounds a cool, dim atmosphere even in midsummer. Budget a couple of hours if you're walking the full approach from the nearest bus stop.
