種間寺
Traditional Buddhist place of worship known as a site where pregnant women pray for safe delivery.
Tanema-ji is Temple No. 34 on the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage, a serene Buddhist site in Kochi known as a place where expectant mothers come to pray for safe childbirth, a tradition that has continued for centuries. The temple grounds are modest but well-maintained, with a quiet garden and a main hall that houses important Buddhist sculptures. Pilgrims receive a distinctive stamp in their norokoshi (pilgrimage book) here, and even non-pilgrims can appreciate the calm atmosphere and the sight of henro (walking pilgrims) arriving with their white vests and conical hats. The temple sits in a rural area surrounded by rice fields, giving it a pastoral quality that contrasts with the more urban pilgrimage stops in Kochi City.
Remove shoes before entering any hall. Look for a shoe rack at the entrance. Carry a plastic bag for your shoes if none is provided.
