Niyodo River Nikobuchi
nature
仁淀川にこ淵
Supernaturally blue river pool caused by pristine water refracting sunlight off white granite.
A deep blue pool at the base of a waterfall on the Niyodo River, famous for an almost unreal shade of blue called 'Niyodo Blue.' The color is caused by the river's extremely low impurity levels and the way sunlight penetrates the crystalline water to reflect off the white granite riverbed. The pool is reached via a steep forest stairway and is most vivid on sunny days between late morning and early afternoon.
