Niseko Goshiki Hot Spring
onsen
ニセコ五色温泉
Sulfur onsen at 750 meters above sea level on the saddle road between Mt. Annupuri and Mt. Iwaonupuri, where the milky water shifts from clear to emerald in changing light.
Niseko Goshiki Onsen has been run continuously since 1930 from a single ryokan complex above the Annupuri-Iwaonupuri saddle, accessed by a gravel road that closes in heavy snow. The water is straight sulfur, milky white in low light and pale emerald when the sun catches it (the name Goshiki means five colors). Two indoor baths, an outdoor karamatsu-no-yu cypress bath, and an open-air ridge-view bath face the mountain. A Niseko Mountain House operates next door for day-use bathers.
The road from Niseko town up to Goshiki is paved only to the summer trailhead; the last 4 km is loose gravel. Closed mid-November through late April.
