Nijimi Falls

A 20-meter waterfall on the Ryuokyo Valley trail in Nikko, named Rainbow View for the vivid rainbow that regularly appears in its spray on sunny mornings. It is visible from several angles along the promenade connecting the trail to Goryuo Shrine. Unusually, it is classified as a hanging valley waterfall: the rock at the top is hard hornblende-bearing volcanic stone that erodes far more slowly than the softer rhyolite below, which over time created the dramatic overhang. The surrounding forest and easy trail access make it one of the trail's most satisfying stops.
