Niigata Senbei Okoku

Niigata Senbei Okoku, the Rice Cracker Kingdom, is a hands-on museum and workshop in Niigata City celebrating senbei, one of the prefecture's most famous exports alongside sake and koshihikari rice. Visitors can grill their own giant senbei over charcoal, paint designs with flavored soy sauce, or build custom flavor combinations to take home. The exhibits trace production from rice milling to seasoning, making clear why Niigata, Japan's top rice-producing prefecture, became the center of senbei culture. The on-site shop carries an enormous range of flavors, from traditional soy sauce and seaweed to more creative modern versions, and it is easy to fill a bag with genuinely interesting gifts.
