Niigata Science Museum

Family-friendly facility offering hands-on exhibits across four themed floors covering natural science, space, energy, and daily-life technology. The planetarium, one of the largest in the Hokuriku-Chubu region, projects seasonal star shows and features programs explaining the constellations visible from Niigata's relatively dark skies. Interactive stations let visitors experiment with electricity, sound waves, and optical illusions, keeping children engaged for hours. The natural history wing showcases the geological story of Niigata Prefecture, including fossil specimens from the region's ancient seabed and displays on the local snow country ecosystem. Located in Toyanogata Park with ample green space, it makes for a comfortable half-day outing, especially during Niigata's rainy season when outdoor activities are limited.
