新潟市水族館 マリンピア日本海
Overview
One of the most prominent aquariums on the Sea of Japan coast, with myriad diversity of sea creatures.
Niigata City Aquarium, known locally as Marinepia Nihonkai, is one of the largest aquariums on the Sea of Japan coast, housing over 20,000 creatures from approximately 600 species. The facility's highlight is a massive Japan Sea tank that recreates the local marine environment, complete with schooling fish, jellyfish, and sea turtles. Daily dolphin shows take place in an outdoor stadium with views of the ocean beyond. Interactive touch pools let visitors handle starfish, sea cucumbers, and small sharks, making it a favorite destination for families. The penguin exhibit features a walk-through tunnel, and the aquarium's location along the Nihonkai shoreline allows for a pleasant coastal walk before or after your visit.
